Dear Dr. Wu:

I have just received Mr. Hollington Tong's letter of

August 3rd which you have sent for my comments, attached to

which are copies of letters from Mr. J.J. Timperley to Rev.

S.H. Dixon and Mrs. Hilda Selwyn-Clarke.

She had

personally entertained her while here and gave her every

opportunity of seeing the work of our Committee.

already got a false impression about our work, and I took a

lot of trouble to point out to her where she was mistaken,

and she personally assured me before leaving that she quite

understood the position and would do anything she could to

her visit here. I feel sure that after ascertaining the

facts, she will have written correcting these.

In his letter to Mr. Dixon, Mr. Timperley sums up the

charges against the International Red Cross Committee as

follows

"1.

"3.

The Hankow International Red Cross is discriminating

against the 8th and 4th Route Armies.

Supplies are being grabbed by the missions.

Either inadvertently or as a matter of policy

medical supplies entrusted to mission hospitals

are getting into the hands of the Japanese."

Dr. K.C. Wu, Mayor of Hankow,

Chairman, International Red Cross Committee,

HANKOW.
